Safe Sleep Recommendation: Don’t let your baby get overheated.

Safe Sleep Recommendation: Don’t let your baby get overheated.

Back to All Recommendations

Overheating can increase the risk of SIDS. Your baby only needs one more layer than you would wear in the same environment to be comfortable.

  • Check your baby for signs of overheating such as sweating, a hot chest or flushed skin.
  • Don’t put a hat on your baby while indoors once you’re home from the hospital.

Safe Sleep NC is a program of the UNC Collaborative for Maternal and Infant Health. Our goal is to strengthen the adoption of infant safe sleep practices that reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and that prevent infant sleep-related deaths such as accidental infant asphyxiation and suffocation across the state.
